LumberworX Ltd is proud to offer New Zealand made engineered wood products – improving the quality of New Zealand homes and contributing to our environment.
LumberworX Ltd was established to offer NZ made engineered timber I-beams utilizing NZ resources. These I-beams belong to a family of products known as “Engineered Wood Products” (EWP’s).
Engineered Wood Products have been manufactured for over 100 years. The first of these was the common plywood and plywood’s real success is still not well understood. Plywood manufacturing technology – the manner in which thin layers of wood were cut from logs – significantly increased log recovery, meaning plywood production was a leader in forestry conservation. I-Beams require approximately 50 percent less wood than is needed for a solid wood beam of the same strength.

EWP’s continue to expand worldwide as new ways are discovered to apply technology to produce materials that, in many cases, are preferable to solid wood. Builders and consumers have adopted EWP’s throughout North America and Europe and NZ is now embracing this trend.
Where once there was only plywood, there are many engineered wood products including structural wood panels like oriented strand board (OSB), composite panels, glued laminated timbers (often called glulam); laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and prefabricated wood I-joists.
Structural LVL is an engineered wood composite made from rotary peeled veneers, glued with a durable adhesive and laid up with parallel grain orientation to form long continuous sections. It was developed as a reliable replacement for finger-jointed timber as flanges for proprietary wooden I-beams but is suited to a wide range of structural applications.
LumberworX’s initial EWP offering was its standard I-Beam fabricated from New Zealand made LVL and plywood and now supplies two I-Beam options and a full range of LVL products.
