LumberworX manufactures timber I-beams in its Christchurch premises.
The LumberworX I-beam is an engineered ‘I’ shaped wood structural member for use in residential and light commercial construction. The product is fully BRANZ appraised 545 (2007) after initial type testing against American Society of Testing and Materials ASTM 5055-02 “Standard Specification for Establishing and Monitoring Structural Capabilities of Prefabricated Wood I-Joists”.
The LumberworX I-beam is available in four popular sizes suited to New Zealand conditions, especially as floor joists and rafters [for flat and mono-pitched skillion roofs]. Sizing is determined by the depth of the I-beam then by the width of the flange, being

Pending the completion of our new Specifiers & Constructors Guide BRANZ have permitted the release of our revised span tables for our standard I-Beam and our new 90mm series. They can be downloaded below. Please use the new span tables and not the existing ones in the current Specifiers & Constructors guide.
The LumberworX I-beam is prefabricated using structural laminated veneer lumber (LVL) flanges to AS/NZS 4357:1995 and structural plywood web to AS/NZS 2269:1994. Both are sourced in the South Island of New Zealand. These members are bonded with approved structural adhesive being two part resorcinol type structural adhesive to category C (fully exposed) in 3606:1987.
